The Spanish Institute of Honduras was originally started as an offshoot of a local seminary by Camino Global missionary, Mark Fittz, for the purpose of providing language classes to future missionaries. In 2013 the Spanish Institute of Honduras became a legally registered Honduran company and has continued to grow and expand. We are very proud of the fact that the school is a completely self-sustaining business, but we have not lost sight of the original purpose of the school: providing quality Spanish language training, primarily to missionaries coming to serve in Central America.
Our teachers are the heart of our Institute. Being local Hondurans, all of whom have a passion for multiculturalism, they invest in the students to see them grow and adapt to Latin America. It begins in the classroom with grammar and vocabulary instruction. However, it goes far beyond that. Since instruction is one-on-one, each student and teacher develop a friendship with each other. We value developing community at our school. Students also become connected with other students through holiday and birthday celebrations, interactions during class or recess, activities scheduled outside of school hours, and our weekly Bible study. “Come as friends; leave as family” is much more than our slogan. It is our guiding point and the heart of the Institute’s creation. Being in the mission field is not an easy feat, which is why we love to be the first steppingstone. Supporting our missionary students in their transition allows them to adapt better to the newness of it all.
Come as friends; leave as family! More than just a slogan... We understand that during your time with us, you will be apart from your family, your country, and your missions work. Although we cannot replace these things, we do our best to support our students in every way possible! This support comes not only from those who oversee the school, but also from our teachers and the other students. When you study with us, you will find that you become part of a group of people who are committed to each other and to one another's success.
Here. you will grow in community and make life-long friends.
As part of our language program, we provide one-on-one classes for better language comprehension with highly trained Honduran teachers, many of whom were trained extensively by the Peace Corps and continue to use their training, skills, knowledge and expertise to educate our staff. Each student will receive personal attention, ensuring that your unique developmental needs will be met. Some classes will discuss various aspects of Latin American culture and society so that you're learning the language in the context of the culture. At other times, your teacher will organize your class around themes or subjects you find personally interesting.
The Spanish Institute of Honduras is located in beautiful Siguatepeque, a town of 90,000 people. Surrounded by mountains and pine trees, Siguatepeque is a great and secure place to live while learning Spanish. In addition to time in the classroom, we provide our students a time to practice what they are learning by going on educational, cultural field trips. We also encourage them to explore and experience our beautiful city of Siguatepeque.
The Institute offers a variety of housing options to better your transition to Siguatepeque. When you arrive, you will be able to move into your living situation immediately and be ready for classes.
